Circle Time:

Children share experiences, talk about the day, sing songs, and listen to stories. The teacher presents a daily lesson related to current curriculum or Montessori Materials.

The Work Period/Free Choice Time:

The work period is a time of purposeful work and concentration. During these periods children work individually, in pairs or in small groups choosing materials from throughout the environment. The teachers observe the children as they work, intervening only as necessary, to help problem-solve or to provide lessons, in which a child or small group of children, is introduced to a new material or concept.

Outside Play:

Children are involved in gross motor activities using tricycles, swings, slides, etc. They may participate in organized group games or develop social skills playing in small groups. According to the season, various art projects, water play, sandbox play, gardening, etc. are available.

Rocklin Montessori Preschool Program

The Montessori prepared environment and three year age-range are fundamental to the Montessori method of education. The Montessori classroom is prepared with great care and encompasses areas of learning and socializing that are designed to foster independence, concentration, self-motivation and a love of learning.

The emphasis on independence and self-motivation is made possible because the materials in the classroom are readily accessible to the children. The children are free to independently choose activities appropriate to their level, and to progress and develop at their own pace.
